“Morning at Mystic Beach"
16"x11" - Pen/Ink & Watercolor
Mystic Beach lies near the Southern end of the Juan de Fuca trail, a short hike from the trailhead. It’s impressive ocean-side cliff is predominantly made of sandstone, which creates dynamic and ever-changing shapes as it’s battered by the raging surf of winter storms and torrential rain. As my first landscape, it feels fitting to start this new journey by painting a trail that has given me so many other firsts. It was on the Juan de Fuca trail that I did my first backpacking trip and my first solo trip. When I used to work at MEC in the Victoria store, hiking the Juan de Fuca was the first clinic I taught to people hoping to share similar experiences. It remains a place very dear to my heart and mystic beach is easily one of the most iconic vistas of the trail. It's coastal British Columbia at it's finest.
